Can We Talk?

Are you looking for a doctor that will do whatever it takes to help you become healthy? A doctor who offers the most modern techniques, and specializes in the art of listening? My own experiences as a working mother and a wife have given me much insight into managing the stresses of everyday living. I understand how hard it is to juggle the many demands that a busy life can throw at you. Stress management is one of the most important things I like to discuss with my patients.

My earliest personal experience with chiropractic was in college, where the stress was unbelievable! I suffered from a number of conditions, including headaches, and backaches stemming from a scoliosis. After my very first chiropractic adjustment, I had relief from headaches and low back pain, and found out I could do sit ups again after years of not being able to do them! I was so intrigued with how quickly and efficiently that chiropractic worked that I decided to pursue it as a career. In fact, I was so on fire to let everyone I met know just how wonderful the benefits of chiropractic were, that my family told me I had better go to chiropractic college or please shut up!

Dr. Scheuermann attended Stockton State College in Pomona NJ, where she took courses in psychology and sociology. When introduced to the health benefits of chiropractic through a friend, Helga was amazed at how quickly patients responded to chiropractic care. So she decided to change course and enrolled in chiropractic college at Sherman College in Spartanburg SC.

Sherman College required courses in biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, x-ray, diagnosis, and chiropractic technique and philosophy. Sherman College was very focused on teaching chiropractic philosophy, and showing us the difference between the medical model of health, and the natural "get to the cause" approach of chiropractic. The education received at Sherman College required two years of clinical practice as well as classroom time. Dr. Scheuermann sat for, and passed the boards of three states, and opened her practice in New Jersey in 1980.

My main objective in my practice is to really listen to patients health concerns. Our office is known for it's friendly atmosphere, and loud laughter is a signature sound that is often heard coming from the treatment rooms. That doesn't mean we don't take health seriously, it means that we appreciate the health benefits of humor! We consider many of patients to be good friends, and we have watched many of our patients grow up over the years. Getting to know families, and individual histories is powerful when it comes to the doctor patient relationship.

Speaking of families, we have treated many women during their pregnancies, and consider it a special privilege to be entrusted with the chiropractic care of a child. My own children have been chiropractic patients since they were born, and can count on one hand how many times they ever had to visit the pediatrician. We embrace chiropractic as part of a healthy lifestyle. Now I get to adjust my grandchildren!!!!

Dr. Scheuermann was married to the late Dr. Michael Kwart, also a Sherman College graduate. She has three children, Kurt, Amanda, and Sarah. Amanda is married to Josh Witmer, they reside in Absecon NJ, and have two children, Joshua and Mariah. Sarah was recently married to Stephen Gaetano, and they are residing in New Haven, CT, while Stephen is attending graduate school at Yale. Kurt resides in Atlantic City, NJ, and owns a computer business.

Dr. Scheuermann is a member of Trinity Alliance Church in Cologne NJ. She is currently forming a support group for cancer patients. She is a recent breast cancer survivor. She is a frequent visitor to Bonita Springs Florida, where she has several close friends, a few of whom will actually play golf with her!

I have always been a "health nut", and am careful about my diet, and I exercise four or five times a week. I rarely have used antibiotics, and my children were not vaccinated. I realize that this is a very personal choice, and have some informational resources available for patients who request it.

I consider myself an excellent listener, and hope I will get the opportunity to meet you in person to discuss your specific health challenge. Give our office a call or email me at the link below.

Dr. Scheuermann Asks some important questions of interest to Galloway residents - Chiropractor Galloway Dr. Scheuermann Asks...

How could chiropractic help a stomach problem?
Chiropractic works by locating and reducing areas of the spine compromising nerve communications between your brain and your body. If nerves to or from your stomach are irritated, your stomach won't work right. Chiropractors find the source of the interference, reduce it and allow your body to work as designed.
What's the difference between chiropractic and medicine?
Medical treatment focuses on the disease or the symptom. Chiropractic focuses on the person with the disease or the symptom. Medical treatment usually involves changing blood chemistry. Chiropractic involves restoring nervous system integrity. Medical doctors prescribe medicine. Chiropractors adjust the spine—a common source of nervous system interference.
